Last-minute agreement averts strike by Norwegian oil workers

After several hours of mediation, unions and employers agreed a 3.4% pay rise on Monday 8 April for Norwegian oil and gas workers. The last-minute agreement averted a national strike that threatened to severely disrupt the sector.

Seven workers killed at Grupo Modelo plant in Mexico

On Sunday 7 April, a group of employees of the Mexican brewery, Grupo Modelo, realized that seven workers had not clocked out. They went to the area where they had been working and found their colleagues dead in a 15 to 20 m deep tank.

Chilean public and private sector miners unite in national strike

The Federación de Trabajadores del Cobre (FTC) and the Federación Minera de Chile (FMC), which together represent more than 25,000 workers at the state-owned copper company CODELCO and private sector mining companies, held a national strike on Tuesday 9 April.

Indonesian trade unionists jailed fighting precarious work
