Reunión subregional de IndustriALL para los países de la CEI

26 septiembre, 2013Over 50 union leaders from 8 countries gathered in Kiev, Ukraine, to evaluate the results of the first year since the founding of IndustriALL Global Union and discuss future joint work.

Union leaders from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine gathered in Kiev to talk about their experience in the IndustriALL Global Union and discuss future joint activities.

The meeting was opened by the unions from the hosting country, Ukraine. They addressed the issue of social dialogue in difficult economic conditions. Jyrki Raina, IndustriALL general secretary, also made an opening speech, setting the goals of the meeting.

Jenny Holdcroft from the IndustriALL head office made a presentation on the sustainable industrial policy. Participants of the meeting agreed that it was important to combine strong, proactive industrial policy with protection of the environment.

Vadim Borisov presented a detailed account of the IndustriALL regional office activities. He made a special focus on IndustriALL global campaigns, including a successful campaign initiated by the Russian Chemical Workers Union (RCWU), an IndustriALL affiliate, in support of the union locals at Bashneft, an oil company in Russia.

Precarious work was also discussed during the meeting, with the affiliates resolving to join the mobilization on 7 October 2013 and integrate their local fight against precarious work with IndustriALL global campaign.

In the final moments of the meeting, all the participants signed a letter in support of the union at GTM Company in Georgia, which is currently under attack from the administration.
