30 July, 2012IndustriALL Global Union supports Birlesik Metal-Is in its fight for union recognition at Ceha BüroMobilyalari, a metal furniture factory in the city of Kayseri, where the union organized a big majority of the 800 employees.

For more than five months, Ceha Mobilyalari has taken a very hostile anti-union position and attitude against its workers because of their membership to the union, a basic rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Turkey, as well as international labour conventions.

As part of its attacks, the company dismissed 20 union members with continuous pressure and intimidation to force union members to withdraw from Birlesik Metal-Is.

IndustriALL sent a protest letter on 24 July to the owner of Ceha Mobilyalari demanding reinstatement of the dismissed workers. Another letter went to the Ministry of Labour of Turkey, which failed to issue a certificate of competence recognizing the local union of Birlesik Metal-Is after the union managed torecruit 50 per cent plus one of the workers at the plant, which is the majority of the workforce as required by Turkish law.

IndustriALL Global Union and its affiliates will continue monitoring the situation at  Ceha Büro Mobilyalari.
