Iraqi workers protest against the latest government interference29 June, 2012IndustriALL affiliates in Iraq were at the forefront of a major demonstration and picket on the morning of 25 June 2012 in Basra. Fresh from her election as an Executive Committee member of the new IndustriALL Global Union, Hashmeya Muhsin al-Saadawi, leader of the Electricity Utility Workers’ Union, was one of the leaders of the protest which also included the Iraqi Federation of Oil Unions (IFOU), Federation of Workers Councils Unions of Iraq and other Basra based organizations. Protesters marched and chanted slogans denouncing the continued blatant government intervention into internal trade union affairs and the ban on trade union organization in the public sector.

Indonesian union secures overtime pay24 October, 2012The union Esa Kertas Nusantara (SPEKN) reached a collective agreement with a paper company on 19 October securing two years of backdated overtime wages worth approximately Rp. 11,000,000 (around USD 1,200) per worker, payable on 31 October 2012.

Unions urge Petro South Africa to reconsider retrenching 500 workers1 February, 2021State-owned Petroleum and Gas Corporation of South Africa (PetroSA) has announced the retrenchment of 500 out of 1,400 workers. IndustriALL affiliate CEPPWAWU says the retrenchment notice was issued with no reference to union proposals to save the jobs, and is urging the company to consider other options.
