30 October, 2014Unions from the Asia Pacific region met in Singapore to discuss their organizing and campaigning experiences and challenges.

In Singapore on 23-24 October, unions from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cambodia, the Philippines, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore and Papua New Guinea shared experiences on organizing workers and campaigning to win.

Using concrete examples such as the NXP case in the Philippines, the Samsung case in Korea, and the electronics case in Malaysia, unions present at the meeting were able to learn more on improving their approach when planning campaigns.

By looking closer into the successes and failures of previous and on-going campaigns, the meeting was a good platform for strengthening union capacity to defend IndustriALL’s five strategic goals to:

  • build strong unions,
  • confront global capital ,
  • defend trade union rights ,
  • combat precarious work, and
  • fight for sustainable industriall development

We will continue to work together to build union power worldwide, and always stick to our three golden rules; organizing, building strong democratic structures and self-sustaining unions financed through their own membership dues and no competition between affiliates

concluded Fernando Lopes, IndustriALL Assistant General Secretary.
