24 May, 2013After weeks of tough negotiations IndustriALL Global Union together with our sister international UNI Global Union have secured a legally binding agreement an Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh together with the leading brands and retailors of the world.
More than 40 companies have already signed the agreement and we now are covering more than 2000 factories, we have the critical mass to produce real and sustainable change in Bangladesh. It is tragic that it took the lives of more than 1,800 workers killed in factory fires and building collapses during the past seven years before we got to this point. And It is not only about safety, it is also about creating a labour law reform which makes it possible for every workers to join the union and to raise the wages from 38 dollars a month.
