Botswana: IndustriALL calls for immediate action at deadly mine

7 July, 2016In the last five years, 15 mineworkers at Bamangwato Concessions Ltd (BCL) mine in Botswana have died on duty in separate accidents. Despite numerous appeals to government to improve safety at the state-owned mine, conditions are in fact deteriorating.

South African mines claim more lives

27 March, 2018Since January this year, 17 workers have been killed in South African mines. Last week a worker died from an accident at a Sibanye Stillwater operation which mines platinum in Rustenburg while another died at De Beers Venetia diamond mine in Limpopo early this week. 

Mining accident in South Africa kills 5 workers

6 July, 2012On 2 July, five workers were killed and 14 others were hospitalized for smoke inhalation at the KDC West mine operated by Gold Fields in South Africa, when a fire broke out. The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) put the blame on poor mine management. NUM will conduct a memorial service for the deceased in their memory which is attended by the all the workers at the mine.
