Union in deal to donate confiscated garments to South African flood victims

13 June, 2022To help thousands living in shelters and in need of humanitarian assistance following severe flooding and landslides in some parts of South Africa in April, the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU), has signed a tripartite framework agreement with clothing employers, retailers, and the South African government to support the flood victims.

South African unions end three-month strike in the gold sector

15 June, 2022The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) jointly signed a collective agreement at Sibanye Stillwater on 11 June. The agreement comes after a three-month strike and concludes negotiations in the gold sector that began last year.

Bulgarian workers in STS Medical Group signs first collective agreement

15 December, 2022On 28 November, after many rounds of negotiations, multinational STS Medical Group and IndustriALL affiliate the Federation of Light Industry, signed their first collective agreement. The signing took place four days after a protest rally where hundreds of workers demanded adequate pay for their work.

Indian coal workers successfully bargain for a wage raise

NUMSA secures permanent jobs for 100 workers at Bell Equipment

13 July, 2023The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) successfully negotiated for permanent contracts for 100 workers at earthmoving equipment supplier, Bell Equipment, which will become effective this month. For 10 years the workers were employed through labour brokers and the union was on the verge of a strike over the issue.

Kazakhstan: oil workers finally achieve union registration

1 September, 2023After a strenuous two-year ordeal, the Trade Union of Fuel and Energy Industry Workers has managed to register a branch of its union in the city of Almaty. On 11 August, an order was issued to register a branch for workers in the fuel and energy sector. The order came after the union won a lawsuit against the minister of justice in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

UAW reaches tentative agreement with all of the Big Three
