Fighting privatization of steel in India

Millions of workers join nationwide strike

29 March, 2022More than 200 million workers joined the two-day nationwide strike on 28-29 March in India, under the banner of ‘Save the people and save the nation’. The Joint Forum of Central Trade Unions, consisting of central trade unions and independent sectoral federations including IndustriALL affiliates, called the strike in protest of the government's anti-worker, anti-farmer and anti-people policies.

Serious concerns remain about health and safety in India

28 January, 2022In 2021, the Indian manufacturing industry was beset with accidents, with an average of seven accidents reported per month, killing over 162 workers and leaving others disabled for life or badly injured. A number of accidents in the first few weeks of the new year shows that this trend is likely to continue.

India: Workers protest in Foxconn facility

23 December, 2021Thousands of young women workers at Foxconn's iPhone assembly plant in Tamil Nadu, India, blocked the Chennai - Bangalore highway, demanding improved working and living conditions and decent employment. The protests were triggered by food poisoning at a Foxconn dormitory, leaving hundreds of workers in hospital.

One worker killed and six injured at Holcim in India

1 December, 2021One worker was killed and five other injured at Marwar cement plant in Nagaur district of Rajasthan, India on 18 November 2021. Another worker was seriously injured in Maratha Cement Works in Maharashtra on 11 November 2021. Both plants are owned by Holcim subsidiary, Ambuja cement.
