Pakistan: 19 miners including rescue workers die in coal mine accident

16 August, 2018 On 12 August 2018, two days before Pakistan’s Independence Day, a total of 19 including 13 coal miners and six rescue workers died in a horrific accident at Sanjidi coalmine near Quetta in Baluchistan province.

Pakistan: victims of Ali enterprises factory fire begin to receive compensation

22 May, 2018In September 2012, over 250 workers were killed and 50 more suffered serious injuries in a fire at the Ali Enterprises garment factory in Karachi, Pakistan. Now, after almost six years, victims have started receiving compensation payments based on an agreement reached between German brand KiK and IndustriALL Global Union and Clean Clothes Campaign, mediated by the ILO.

Pakistan has failed to learn lessons of Gadani tradegy, say unions

24 April, 2018On 1 November, 2016, 29 workers were killed and several more injured while dismantling an oil tanker at Pakistan’s Gadani shipbreaking yard. Speakers at a seminar on the industry, organized by IndustriALL affiliate the National Trade Union Federation in Karachi on 21 April, said that the government does not appear to have learnt any lessons from the tragedy.

Pakistan: 11 workers killed in series of mine accidents

5 April, 2018With the horrific mine accident that killed six workers in the Kalat district in Balochistan on 4 April 2018, at least 11 workers at mines in different parts of Pakistan have died since the end of March. 

IndustriALL launches campaign for health and safety in Pakistan mines

15 March, 2018Ten IndustriALL Global Union affiliates are urging the government of Pakistan to ratify ILO Convention 176 (C176) on Safety and Health in Mines. This follows a decision by IndustriALL’s Executive Committee in November 2017, for a global campaign to end fatalities in Pakistani mines.

Pakistan: Anger soars over frequent fatalities in mines

22 January, 2018After the recent tragic deaths of six mine workers in Pakistan, with many more injured, IndustriALL Global Union affiliate the Pakistan Central Mines Labour Federation (PCMLF) staged a protest action in Quetta to demand the government address the problem of poor working conditions and ratify ILO Convention 176 on Safety in Mines as a matter of urgency.
