Many missing after oilrig fire in Azerbaijan

8 December, 2015Numbers vary, but up 30 workers are still not accounted for after a fire broke out on an oilrig offshore Azerbaijan in the Caspian Sea on 4 December. Strong winds and waves up to ten meters are believed to be behind a pipeline rupturing and starting the fire.

Colombia - declaration of indefinite strike

18 March, 2015Workers in Colombia’s mining and energy sectors face anti-trade union practices, persecution and unfair dismissal. The Coordinating Committee for Trade Union Unity in the Mining and Energy Sectors (CUSME), including the leaders of the three unions involved in the proposed merger, met on 12 and 13 March in Bogota to discuss the next steps in the creation of a national mining and energy union and declared an indefinite strike in the oil sector.

Morocco: Electricity workers strike against privatization

28 May, 2015On 25 May, thousands of electricity workers from Fédération nationale des travailleurs de l'énergie (FNTE) in Morocco took action following the government’s decision to halt social dialogue on their unilateral privatization program in the Casablanca region.
