Sex issues at union's conference

27 July, 1999The Canadian Autoworkers Union, CAW, will organise a National Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Conference next year.

CANADA: In its report to the 1999 Collective Bargaining and Political Action Convention, the CAW says it must ensure equality for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders. Workshops on sexuality issues will be incorporated in the union's human rights and women's conferences and the family program will be made fully accessible to same sex partners.
It is important that we continue to give support and join with our brothers and sisters who are marching in Gay Pride parades under the CAW banners, says the report. "As a result of the ongoing work to encourage gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender members to play a more active role in our union, and the continued interest in building caucuses, we will organise an upcoming National Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Conference."
This conference will take place at the end of March or in April next year.
