NUMSA secures permanent jobs for 100 workers at Bell Equipment

13 July, 2023The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) successfully negotiated for permanent contracts for 100 workers at earthmoving equipment supplier, Bell Equipment, which will become effective this month. For 10 years the workers were employed through labour brokers and the union was on the verge of a strike over the issue. 

SWU wins better conditions for Siemens India workers.

8 December, 2016Siemens Workers' Union (SWU) has signed a wage settlement agreement with Siemens Ltd for workers employed at the transformer unit of the company factory in Thane, India.

Trade tariff victory for USW paper workers

9 December, 2016Anti-dumping tariffs on paper products from China and Indonesia were extended by US authorities on 6 December. The decision by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) follows strong lobbying by the world’s largest paper workers union, USW, who were joined by US manufacturers in calling for the measures.

Court rules compensation for dismissed autoworkers in Malaysia

29 October, 2018The industrial court of Malaysia has ruled in October in favour of workers who will be paid MYR1.1 million (US$265,000 US) of their wages retroactively since their dismissal in August 2013. All are members of IndustriALL’s Malaysian affiliate, the National Union of Transport Equipment & Allied Industries Union (NUTEAIW).

Justice for 56 illegally dismissed chemical workers in Georgia
