Shipbuilding and shipbreaking world conference calls for sustainable industry transformation 17 October, 2024Union leaders from 16 countries gathered in Glasgow, 15 and 16 October, at IndustriALL’s shipbuilding and shipbreaking world conference, uniting around a vision for safer, fairer, and sustainable industry standards in two of the world’s most dangerous sectors. This forum called for bold change, demanding stronger worker protections, sustainable practices, and global solidarity.
IndustriALL trade union network at Klabin and Suzano sheds light on violations10 October, 2024Two giant companies of the pulp and paper industry, Klabin and Suzano employ a combined approximately 75,000 people, the vast majority in Brazil. IndustriALL affiliated unions in Brazil brought 45 worker leaders from throughout the companies’ operations together in São Paulo on 8-9 October. The list of human and trade union rights, and environmental violations reported from throughout Brazil runs totally in contrast to both companies’ public commitments.
African organizing and collective bargaining forum launched in Rwanda 10 October, 2024The African trade union organizing and collective bargaining strategic forum was launched in Kigali, Rwanda, on 3-4 October under the slogan “Building African Workers' Power in Our Lifetime.”
Young workers organize in Georgia 9 October, 2024The Georgian Trade Union of Metallurgy, Mining and Chemical Industry Workers (MMC) union made significant progress in recent years under the leadership of president Tamaz Dolaberidze, who sadly passed away last year. The union set a precedent in Georgian industrial relations by winning collective agreements in previously unorganized companies.
Union training for Tunisia's mine workers7 October, 2024Earlier this year, IndustriALL, togther with Tunisia’s trade union confederation UGTT and our mining affiliate Fédération Générale des Mineurs Tunisiens – GTUM-UGTT, launched a training programme for mining unions. The programme aims to train grassroot trade unions, with plans train around 200 unionists in different regions in Tunisia.
