30 June, 2011Dramatic developments take place in Korea at Hanjin Heavy Industries shipyard and Yuseong Piston Ring. Private security forces and riot police forced out protesters from the shipyard and the police issued arrest warrants for Yuseong Piston Ring union leaders who in sign of protest have started a hunger strike in the Buddhist Jogye Temple in Seoul.

18 July, 2011The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has reached an agreement with employers ending the two week strike in the metal and engineering sector involving 170, 000 workers, the vast majority of whom are NUMSA members.

16 June, 2011Maruti - Suzuki workers launched sit-in strike from June 4 demanding trade union rights. While the management sacked 11 workers including union office bearers, thousands of workers in Gurgaon region stand in solidarity with workers. International Metalworkers' Federation (IMF) expresses its solidarity and calls upon the management to accept workers' democratic right to a union.

13 July, 2011Some 10,000 people participated on July 9-10 in the "Hope Bus" march to the Hanjin shipyard in Korea to protest against dismissals in breach of their union contract. Riot police blocked and sprayed marchers with teargas fluid in spite of the fact that they had a permit and had informed the police of the march.
