IndustriALL Bridgestone Network

20 January, 2014The 13th Bridgestone Union Global Network Steering Committee meeting took place in Tokyo, Japan on 14 – 16 April. Delegates from all regions of the world participated at this network, which serves as a role model for other tire companies.

The network is a union answer to the global structure of Bridgestone, where the cooperation and mutual support make g the single unions stronger as they have better access to information and get an opportunity to discuss common activities.

After an exchange about the situation in the different regions the network focused on health and safety issues. Aiming for zero accidents is one of the main areas of union work in the network, and as a result work-related accident in most of the Bridgestone plants around the world have been reduced. And with on going activities like labour and management health and safety workshops, health and safety conditions should continue to improve.

The IndustriALL Bridgestone Union global Network is a good example that working conditions can be improved if workers are unionized and if unions cooperate on a global level.

We will continue this network activities to support unions in different regions of the world, to guarantee social dialogue and to ensure health and safety work for all workers at Bridgestone factories.

At the end it was decided to hold the next meeting in June 2015, in South Africa.
