Tunisia’s Parliament approves disputed labour law

27 May, 2025On 21 May, Tunisia’s Parliament passed a new law regulating employment contracts and restricting subcontracting. The law, referred to as the “subcontracting law,” introduces penalties, including potential imprisonment, for those hiring through outsourcing arrangements. It also replaces fixed-term contracts with open-ended ones, while allowing some exceptions. The Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) reveals numerous shortcomings and loopholes in the new text and warns of repercussions on workers.

MENA automotive unions week

5 November, 2024In October 2024, IndustriALL organized the MENA automotive industry unions week in Morocco, with the participation of union leaders from Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco. On 6-7 October, the MENA automotive union network met to Just Transition, organizing and workers’ challenges.

7 October, 2024Earlier this year, IndustriALL, togther with Tunisia’s trade union confederation UGTT and our mining affiliate Fédération Générale des Mineurs Tunisiens – GTUM-UGTT, launched a training programme for mining unions. The programme aims to train grassroot trade unions, with plans train around 200 unionists in different regions in Tunisia. 

Understanding living wages

29 May, 2024On 7-8 May, IndustriALL hosted a training workshop in Tunis, focusing on living wages and collective bargaining for unions representing Swedish companies in Tunisia's textile and garment sector. This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Fédération Générale du Textile, de l'Habillement, Chaussure et Cuir (FGTHCC-UGTT), brought together approximately 20 unionists from companies like Autoliv, Sancella, and Alva.

Empowering women in Tunisia: a workshop on health and safety

Just Transition in Tunisia

22 March, 2024Following the decision in last year’s regional  conference,  IndustriALL and affiliates from  the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) organized a meeting on Just Transition. More than 50 union leaders from the country’s textile, metals, oil and mining sectors participated in the meeting on 28 February.
