Three, including the only woman, Roza Tuletaeva, were alleviated of their conditions of imprisonment. They were transferred to the colony-settlement. However two people, Shabdan Utkilov and Kanat Zhusipbaev so far remain in jail.

27 March, 2014Monday 24 March saw a remarkable trade union victory in Amman, Jordan. A last-minute new collective agreement including a 30 per cent salary increase averted strike action by the 3,600 members of IndustriALL Global Union’s Jordanian petroleum and chemical workers affiliate.

21 March, 2014The General Union of Petroleum & Chemical Workers in Jordan has spent several weeks trying to get the government to respond to the demands raised by 3,600 workers representing the total workforce of Jordan's only oil refinery. The government's refusal to enter into dialogue has left them with no other option than to announce a full strike for 24 March.

12 March, 2014An interim tribunal said sacked Ineos worker and trade unionist Mark Lyon is ‘likely’ to get his job back when the case reaches the full hearing later on in the year. Petrochemical giant Ineos was also ordered to pay Mark Lyon full wages since February until the hearing.

FUP and Petrobras launch Workers’ Network

10 March, 2014From 25 to 27 February 2014 the Brazilian Oil Workers’ Union FUP hosted a meeting to launch the workers’ network of Petrobras. A global agreement was signed with Petrobras in 2011, and now it is up to the network to make a living agreement.

20 December, 2013The Coordinating Committee for Unity in the Mining and Energy Sector (Coordinadora para la Unidad del Sector Minero Energético, CUSME) is calling for the government to guarantee that the oil workers’ union (Unión Sindical Obrera, USO) will be able to carry out its trade union activities free from interference; release detained workers; withdraw arrest warrants; and close the files on 39 legal cases brought against USO members, 34 of which concern protests by workers and the community in the Pacific Rubiales “Banana Republic” in Meta.
