Philippines ratifies ILO Convention 190

12 December, 2023After four years of campaigning led by IndustriALL Philippine affiliates, the country’s Senate has ratified the ILO Convention on violence and harassment, making Philippines the 37th country in the world to do so.

Union leaders in Kyrgyzstan must be released immediately

11 December, 2023Union leader Eldar Tadjibaev, chair of the Mining and Metallurgy Trade Union of Kyrgyzstan (MMTUK), was arrested together with several other union leaders on 6 December, as part of increasing pressure on unions and restrictions of freedom of association in the country.

IndustriALL Exco adopts new policy on GBVH, misogyny and sexism

30 November, 2023IndustriALL Executive Committee held from 28-29 November, took a significant step with the adoption of a global policy on gender-based violence and harassment (GBVH), misogyny and sexism. This adoption coincides with the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. 

Uruguayan metal workers' union obtains shorter working week

23 November, 2023In a major victory for the union, IndustriALL affiliate in Uruguay, National Union of Metal and Allied Workers (UNTMRA), has managed to obtain a reduction in working hours.

FKMTU leader released on bail

15 November, 2023The general secretary of Federation of Korean Metalworkers' Trade Unions (FKMTU), Kim Jun-yeong, was released on bail from Gwangju prison on 3 November, after being arrested during a sit-in protest earlier this year. His next hearing will be on 20 November.

Tesla conflict in Sweden escalates

9 November, 2023As electric car manufacturer Tesla refused to engage in negotiations on a collective agreement, Swedish union IF Metall realised it’s strike warnings on 27 October. With opposition to Tesla’s anti-union attitude growing, other Swedish unions are taking solidarity action to protect the right to collective bargaining. Unions in Norway are set to join the protest.

Brands commit to long-term future and expansion of International Accord

6 November, 2023Global trade unions and fashion brands and retailers have reached agreement on a new International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Industry. The renegotiated contract secures the work of the Accord until the end of the decade, strengthens the complaint mechanism for workers and includes commitments for an expansion into other countries.
