16 January, 2023Workers’ lives continue to be in danger due to the unsafe working conditions at Bangladesh’s shipbreaking yards. Two accidents occurred on 12 January in two separate yards, killing one worker and severely injuring the other.

Unions in Bangladesh demand revision of new minimum wage

16 November, 2023Minimum wage protests in Dhaka continue as workers’ demand of a higher minimum wage remains unmet. Police has been violently breaking down the protests and to date four workers have been killed and several others seriously injured. Police has registered over 60 criminal cases, in which nearly a hundred workers have been arrested, including six local union leaders.

Accidents continue at Bangladesh shipbreaking yards

1 May, 2020A worker was critically injured at the Tahsin Steel shipbreaking yard, Chittagong, on 28 April, International Workers Memorial Day. This year alone, at least six workers have been killed at Bangladesh shipbreaking yards.
