10 August, 2012Birlesik Metal-Is secured the reinstatement of unfairly dismissed union members on 9 August 2012 at FCMP TR Metal, a screw-machining and assembly plant, which is part of French-based FCMP Développement.

Located in the city of Turgutlu, the company terminated the employment contacts of 21 members of Birlesik Metal-Is on 1 August 2012, for a so-called economic crisis at the workplace.

Birlesik Metal-Is and the dismissed workers immediately started to picket in front of the plant. In solidarity with its affiliated union, IndustriALL Global Union contacted the company headquarters in France and Turkish subsidiary of FCMP demanding the workers reinstatement. IndustriALL also made contact with affiliates in France that have members in the company.

Following this decisive struggle, the majority of the dismissed workers at FCMP have been re-instated, and the picket line has ended.  The union is still negotiating for the remaining few workers, and hopes to achieve the same positive result.
